1. Chapter 1 (1/1)
lev sighed as he gazed across the desert like land that was the graveyard. in the twilight, it looked very pretty. with connor away seeing his old girlfriend or something, life around here was really hard. flashbacks came to him very suddenly and in huge quantities, overwhelming him. he was sitting back at his tithing party, then he was watching connor save a storked baby, then he was standing in the building once again. refusing to clap. refusing. now the memory was twisting itself. he would clap, he would. just to prove how powerful he could be. his hands were already coming together when he saw risa round the corner, coming towards him. "no!" he screamed, but it was too late. the fire erupted from his hands, and for one fraction of a second before he too was killed, he saw the light leave risa's eyes.
"no! please!" lev sat straight up in the dirt. he must have fallen asleep. "are you okay? i came over because i heard you yell," said a very familiar voice off to his left. he whipped around. "oh, hey risa" he said,
ushing sweat off of his forehead, "sorry, i just had a nightmare," she looked at him with concern in her eyes. "you sure that you're okay?" she asked again, moving closer to him on her wheelchair. "yeah, really. no… no…" he choked up. what the heck was wrong with him? he'd never thought about telling these emotions to someone, and never got choked up like this by them. he looked at risa. in the light of the moon, she looked so beautiful. maybe even mystical. tears clouded his vision. "lev, what is it?" lev's feelings exploded from within him. "it's not fair!" he shouted, tears streaming down his face now, "why are we treated so different?! why do we have to die for them?!" risa leaned down and kissed him on the head. he stopped screaming and looked up, shocked. "i feel the same way…" and they both turned to watch the desert sand whip around in the moonlight.
