13. I Like You Too (1/2)
hello my readers, sorry for the long wait as i got really busy at the moment. so here is chapter 13 and since this is fe
uary this is a small special for all of you readers. hope you all enjoy it and write a review if you like it, thanks.
it was around evening time when most of the apes that were out of the meadows, were returning to the safety inner walls of the ape city. the mass of bodies filed into the colony without much trouble and all went their separate ways for the rest of the evening. many of the newer apes did not know how the colony functioned and thus, they seeked the guidance of many of the older apes, mainly the orangutans whom were ever so patient with them. seating herself by one of the moss covered hearths that were located all within the village, xuě let her green eyes wander around, taking in the view of the inner colony once more. it was still a wonder to her how these apes were able to build themselves such a big and stable society without the help of the humans, well... maybe a little help from the looks of it but mostly without. speaking of humans, xuě was quite surprised to see five of them, situated just on the other side of the gates, being surrounded by many of the younger apes, while the older ones kept a watchful eye on them. smiling to herself the scene reminded her of the human friends they used to have... she wondered what they were doing here though and if maybe they might be in danger themselves. knowing that many of the older apes did not like the presence of humans however the ones in this colony seem to know these humans well.
while observing the humans from afar xuě couldn't help but notice a familiar looking chimp making his way across the rather large courtyard, towards the hut that kept most of their injured and or sick. as she watched the scarred chimp treading across the grounds, xuě noticed the ape stopping in his tracks and slowly rose onto his two legs. she then noticed that the chimp inspecting his surroundings before he rounded his head towards her direction, stopping when they both had made eye contact. xuě let out a small gasp when blue-eyes had locked eyes with her as if he knew that she was watching him. the two of them just simply stared at each other, one standing tall among the masses while the other sat off in the distance. xuě felt as if time had suddenly slowed down for the both of them, the other apes becoming nothing more than a blur in the world while both of them were whole. she could not explain it, every time she would see the male chimp she would feel a sense of calmness overcome her as if his presence was the cause of it. tilting her head slowly, xuě offered a warm smile to the other chimp hoping that he would in return do the same. instead the blue eyed chimp lowered his gaze off towards the side before glancing back at her once and then turn around and left,
eaking the spell that they both were in. just like that the moment was over for xuě when the chimp with sky hued eyes walked away from her and trudged on, continuing on his way towards his destination.
xuě couldn't help but feel a little disappointed and sadden by this while she hugged herself for comfort and averted her attention elsewhere. she couldn't really blame the other ape though, it was only two days ago that they've actually met one another, both she and blue-eyes. yet despite that small amount of time she had felt a close connection to the blue eyed chimp, like she has never felt before. however that could not be said about the other, for he was just doing his job to protect a fellow ape that was in trouble. letting out a small grunt she was frustrated at herself for suddenly having these feelings for an ape that she hardly even knew... but she did know him, at least a little. he was
ave, strong, silent, caring and even patient with her when he had helped her that one time. he had
ought her food and was slightly embarrassed when she had approached him. closing her eyes and letting a small smile spread on her lips, xuě wondered if maybe he liked her too and probably just can't express it really well. sighing, xuě stood up slowly and limped her way towards one of the new huts she now calls home. on her way back though, xuě couldn't help but smile to herself. her friends were right about her, she did like the blue eyed prince of this colony.
...
once inside the hut blue-eyes leaned his back against the walls and let out a deep
eath, not knowing what was becoming of him. why did he feel so... strange when he was in the presence of the white chimpanzee whom he just met? he thought nothing of it when he had saved her, yet despite that he had somehow grown accustomed to her being near him. apparently he's never felt this way about another ape before and yet whenever he was around her, he would feel tranquil and ease at the mind. sure she was beautiful and had an exotic type of coat of fur on her but that does not factor into why he was having such feelings of an ape that he had just met.
blue-eyes then remembered their talk with each other when he had awoke from recovery, after that nasty fight with the mountain lion. she had thanked him and had actually felt comfortable enough to groom him. during that moment of being alone with her, both of them had gotten to know each other a bit better by telling their stories of where they were from and what they did. xuě had felt extremely guilty that she was the cause of his new scars but he did not mind them. as long as she was safe then gaining some scars was a small price to pay for her safety and would do it again for anyone else who was in danger. during their moments together though the white chimpanzee was able to sense something within him, noting that he was carrying a dark heavy burden within his heart and had offered to help by extending out her hand towards him. he knew this gesture, the gesture of another trying to understand him, of one wanting to help him. however he did not accept xuě's offer, feeling that this burden was for him alone. despite his cold shoulder to her, blue-eye was quite surprised when xuě had approached him the third time they were alone. in that instance he felt something pulling him in as if he were in a trance. it was only when he had taken a step away from the female and averted eye contact with her was he able to move away. groaning blue-eyes put his face into his hands as these strange feeling were conflicting within him.
"you alright young one?" one of the ape healers signed as she stopped and noticed blue-eyes leaning his back against the walls.
"i'm fine!" blue-eyes quickly responded as he raised himself away from the wall, turning his attention to the ape healer. without uttering another word he quickly made his way on over to the room that held his little
other. before he entered the room blue-eyes took in a deep
eath and calmed his nerves before moving on. upon entering, blue-eyes noticed that both of his parents were still there and approached them slowly, letting his mother pull him into her arms. letting his eyes wander on over towards his father, blue-eyes met the older ape's gaze and nodded to his sire. "how is he mother? father?" blue-eyes signed as he turned his attention towards the sleeping chimp.
"your uncle said that he should stay here for the night and rest. ellie will come by tomorrow morning to check up on him before she leaves to go and work at the dam," cornelia responded.
blue-eyes nodded once understanding, before walking on over towards milo's bedside and placed a comforting hand onto the younger chimp's shoulder. "did he wake yet?" blue-eyes asked, facing his parents.
"just for a little while, when your mother and i had came in to check up on him," caesar answered, gaining a nod from his eldest.
watching both of his parent's wary stares, blue-eyes heaved out a sigh. "i will stay here with milo for the night, you two should go back home and rest," blue-eyes informed the two older apes. just as his parents were about to speak up, blue-eyes held up his hand so that he may speak. "mother... father... you both need rest. go. i will be fine," he spoke up softly. both the king and queen apes glanced at each other warily before letting their gaze fall back on him once more. seeing his father heave a sigh, the older ape approach him.
"you know where to find us, keep your
other safe," caesar signed to his eldest to which the younger ape nodded back once.
"if there is anything wrong, come to us and your uncles immediately, you hear?" cornelia signed as she pulled her eldest into a strong hug before letting him go. she then bent down and gave her youngest a kiss on the temple before she slowly exited the room with caesar.
just as the two older apes left the room did blue-eyes notice his younger
other stirring and then slowly open up his green eyes.
"hey big
other... you came," milo
eathed out tiredly while he slowly sat up.
"i said that i would come back for you, so here i am," blue-eyes responded with a warm smile.
"where is mother and father?" milo signed letting his head slowly swerve around the room to look for them.
"they just left, i told them to go home and that i would be staying with you for the rest of the night," blue-eyes informed the younger chimp as he approached the other and sat by the side.
"that's nice of you," milo hummed in response to his older
other and opened his mouth into a tired yawn. noticing that there wasn't as much activity going on outside, he guessed that it was already late and probably most if not all the apes were returning to their homes for the night.
"you hungry milo?" blue-eyes asked, causing the young chimp to direct his attention back towards him.
"no... mother and father already
ought me food earlier while you were gone... where did you go to blue-eyes?" milo questioned.
"i was checking up on the others, your friends and the rest of the colony," blue-eyes informed the younger chimp.
"oh... are the others okay?" milo asked.
"the others are fine," blue-eye chuckled as he rubbed milo on top of the head making the younger chimp grunt.
"did you talk to her?" milo suddenly spoke up, catching the older chimp off guard.
"talk... to who?" blue-eyes questioned.
"you know..." milo spoke up in a hushed voice as he looked around quickly before facing his elder
other again, "her."
at first blue-eyes did not understand what his
other was talking about until it clicked within his mind. "um... no. no i did not," blue-eyes informed the younger chimp.
"why don't you?" milo asked with smile.
"because i don't have to, and... why does it matter to you so much anyways?" blue-eyes spoke up feeling strange that his
other was asking him these kind of questions.
"because i like her and i think you like her too," milo responded noticing his
other giving an annoyed look.
"you haven't even met her and... what... what makes you think that," blue-eyes stuttered to which the younger ape merely smiled back up at him.
"a feeling," milo responded remembering when he had seen both blue-eyes and the white chimpanzee signing to each other when he had tried to visit. "what is her name?" milo asked as he laid back down to rest.
"xuě," blue-eyes responded as he let his gaze fall down at the ground, "her name is xuě."
"that's a pretty name. i like it," milo responded as he closed his eyes and laid back down to rest. "good night big
other... thank you for staying with me," milo whispered gaining a soft pat at the top of his head.
"good night little
other. i will see you in the morning," blue-eyes responded to the young chimp who was quickly sound asleep. blue-eyes then leaned back on his spot and thought about what milo had said about him liking xuě. he couldn't possibly like her could he? then there it was again, those conflicted feelings that was raging inside of him. "maybe you are right... i probably do like her," blue-eyes whispered aloud as he too closed his eyes and allowed his body to rest.

charlie grumbled within his cage while glaring up at the chimps who had put him there. whatever they did to tie down the strong wooden bars of his cage would not budge no matter how hard he tried to undo them. every time when the chimps had set their attentions elsewhere he would quickly try to free himself with no success. in the end all it left him with tired fingers that were throbbing with pain. he hated this so... if he knew that he was going to get captured like this he wouldn't have ventured out that night. then again the would not have learned about the coup that the chimpanzees were preparing. what did they really plan for the other apes within the colony? were they all going to be hurt? or worst killed? charlie hoped that the latter would not come into fruition. however another option was to stop this all together and that would be to set himself free from this wretched cage and warn pankun and the others. sighing loudly, charlie leaned his head against the bars and closed his eyes as the chimps started their small bonfires.
while stuck in there though, charlie started to remember something that had occurred earlier. earlier during the day when both is arms and legs were still bound, before he was thrown into this makeshift cage, he had saw a particular chimpanzee. a young female whom was hiding, way up within the trees. while he was bounded he had let his eyes wander up to the tree tops and that was when he noticed the young female. she had watched them and when she too notice of him she hand quickly hidden herself from sight. why she was hiding he did not know, but he did know that the young chimp was not affiliated with these chimps and maybe she would be the one to inform the other apes about the impending doom that might occur. opening his eyes back up, charlie let his gaze wander up towards the treetop and watch the starry sky through the leaves. hopefully help will come soon.

the soft pitter-patter of wings flapping caused a particular bonobo to stir from his sleep. letting out a quiet groan, rain sat up slowly, rubbing away at the sleep from his eyes before looking up at his surroundings. as he let his gaze roam around, familiar objects came into his line of sight. getting up slowly out of the makeshift bedding, rain slowly lumbered on over towards the entrance way of his room and peeled back the thick cloth, revealing the outside are of the place he called home. there across from where he stood was his little sister's room and then to his left was his parents. "parents..." rain whispered to himself while he gazed off into the distance. just then the cover to cinder's room flew open and out came running a smaller chimpanzee who quickly wrapped her arms around him.
"rain!" cinder cried happily as she held onto her big
