the following contains all four chapters of the idw 2019 annual for sonic the hedgehog. all credit goes to sega, sonic team, and the works of idw, while also including some of my personal touches. these stories take place between chapter 12 and chapter 13. constructive criticism is allowed for this piece, but,no flames! if you do not like the following piece, don't read it. simple.

chapter 1

bonds of friendship

spiral hill village

"woo-hoo!" tangle cried excitedly, hopping up and down on her tail. "you came! you really came!"

"h'lo," whisper the wolf said. since their last adventure, she had promised tangle that she would visit her home. and now, she was here.

"it feels like forever since our last adventure!" tangle said, wrapping her arms around whisper in a hug. "it's so cool to have friends come to visit! and when the town isn't being bombarded, even!" whisper just pushed tangle out of the way with her wispon. "whoops!" tangle said, smiling nervously. "right. boundaries. my bad." she then led whisper through the town. "lemme give you a tour!" tangle said, excitedly. "this is the bakery! it's a must for every

eakfast." she took a small slice of baguette, and whisper took a pound cake, which was her favorite food. "the salon!" she said, gesturing to a green building, her mouth full of

ead, while hanging from a lamppost. "i keep them in business buying their

ushes. i tear through them trying to keep my tail neat." they finished their food and tangle led whisper over to an old facade building with a sign that said "mineral museum" that hung over the door. "there's a million more stops," she said, gesturing to the door, "but i can't wait to show you the mineral museum run by my bestest friend!" she flung open the door to reveal a beetle carrying a small stack of papers. she had primarily light blue skin, pink eyes, a small black nose and a white muzzle. she has an even lighter blue iridescent exoskeleton with a pink, yellow, green, and blue rainbow-like sheen. her antennae were light blue. the interior of her wings are cream. for attire, she wore a pink blazer with navy buttons, a white cravat with a golden

ooch with a blue gem, a matching pink miniskirt, white gloves with navy cufflinks, navy tights, and pink wedge pumps.

"hey jewel!" she called. "i

ought a guest!" this surprise startled the beetle, who dropped several papers in surprise. "jewel," she said, addressing both jewel and whisper while she snatched a loose document out of the air with her tail. "this is whisper. we fought robots together!"

"charmed," jewel said, smiling at whisper.

"h'lo," whisper said, smiling back.

"we grew up together!" tangle said, pressing her cheek to jewel's while smiling widely.

"only because i was looking out for you," jewel said, smiling back. "you're the antithesis of 'look before you leap.'" she took flight with her wings and showed whisper the various rocks that were on the shelves or in display cases. "we amassed quite a collection over the years. tangle, looking for adventure, and me making sure she came back alive." she gestured to the room around her. "eventually, i put together this museum."

"it's beautiful," whisper said, smiling just then, the sky outside, which was a beautiful blue one moment suddenly faded to a dark gray.

"aw, where did the sun go?" tangle said, sadly. "i didn't think it was supposed to rain today." whisper then suddenly snapped her mask on and readied her wispon. "whoa!" tangle cried, never expecting a reaction from whisper like this. "what are you-?"

"heard a scream outside," whisper said. suddenly, the front door burst open and three figures on extreme gear boards came flying in. the trio consisted of a hawk, a swallow, and an albatross. the hawk had emerald green and dark emerald green feathers covering his body and white feathers on his front torso. he had blue eyes and a golden beak. his hair is styled like a mohawk with dark green tips. he also had two tail feathers. for attire, he wore a pair of white gloves with red and black cuffs, red, black and white boots with gray soles, and yellow and white goggles with gray strapping.

the swallow had light purple and dark feathers that cover her body and head. her hair is styled like a pair of long

aids. she had a curved beak, cobalt eyes and two tail feathers. for attire, she wears white gloves with golden

acelets and red lining, a white tube top and flare-designed trousers. she also wore red boots with white accents, a necklace with a red gem and gold glasses.

and lastly, the albatross had grey feathers and white feathers covering his body. he had blue eyes, a gold beak and his hair is short but similar to the swallow's hair. for attire, he wore tan gloves with black bands, small yellow goggles, a necklace with small gray pieces, and black, yellow, white and grey sneakers with sock-like cuffs.

"wave! you take the top floor!" the hawk ordered, who was apparently the leader of the three. "storm, smash and grab! i got the ground floor!"

"sure thing, jet!" the swallow, who jet called wave, said.

"you got it, boss!" storm said. so that's who they were, tangle realized. the babylon rogues, a group of well known thieves and mercenaries for hire who spent most of their time searching the world for jewels to steal. tangle hadn't heard of other jewel thieves other than rouge. but she had no time to dwell on this. they were busy robbing the mineral museum. jet was using a pair of fans to swipe multiple jewels into a sack. wave was picking up jewels by the handful and shoving them into her sack. meanwhile, storm was busy smashing open a display case, when he saw something large.

"huh? oh, wow!" he said, approaching the jem, which turned out to be jewel.

"what in the world-?" jewel whispered under her

eath.

"wait till the boss sees you!" storm said, picking her up and shoving her into the sack.

"jewel!" tangle cried from behind the counter.

"too easy!" jet cried, zipping past whisper. "babylon rogues, back to the blimp!" laughing, they zipped out of the museum and up towards a large blimp that was hovering above the village.

"they took jewel!" tangle cried to whisper. "they took jewel!"
