4. Chapter 4 (1/2)
hello to anyone who is reading this i stumbled upon my ff page the other day and realized i had so many unfinished stories that were actually getting reviews (lol what?!) i honestly i didn't think anyone was still reading this story or even interested. i hope after a long long looooong wait the ending i wrote is worth it. but this is it folks, the final chapter of this story. hopefully we get the 90210 reunion we deserve and get to see dylan and
enda end up officially together. for now, i hope my story will do.
*update 8/15/18, after reading reviews, i discovered a whole section of the last flashback scene was not uploaded, which is why some of the reviews are making sense. hopefully the completed section now provides clarification on dylan's old relationship status and doesn't make the ending feel too rushed. *
dylan pushed the tassel out of his face for what felt like the hundredth time that day. it was a nice day in beverly hills. the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and he was finally graduating from high school. dylan knew he should be paying more attention to what the speaker was saying, but he was distracted.
dylan fidgeted in his seat, desperately trying to resist the urge to glance behind him to sneak a peak at
enda. he knew she was rows and rows behind him, but he couldn't help himself from wanting to look for her. dylan leaned back in the folding chair, thinking about the last time he was with
enda on the beach.
"i want you and only you…and i don't want to go back to the way things were either. i only want to move forward with you by my side. do you want that too? do you want this? do you want us again?"
dylan watched as
enda chewed her lip. she rocked back on balls of her feet and just stared up at him, not responding. he gazed deeper into her eyes, not saying anything, hoping his words from earlier were enough.
"i want you too." she whispered shyly playing with the strings on his sweatshirt, "you know i want to be with you dylan, but i don't know if it's our time."
dylan felt his face harden and his heart drop, "what does that even mean? we are here together, now, what's so wrong with right now."
enda looked up sharply at his tone and pulled back from him, her
ight eyes getting watery in an instant. dylan looked away, cursing under his
eath. he ran a hand through his hair reminding himself to calm down..
"sorry." he muttered wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her close, "i didn't mean to snap, but you're killing me here with this back and forth
enda."
he watched her closely as she squirmed around. he removed one had from her waist and tilted her face upwards so they were making eye contact again. "why isn't it our time?"
"i don't know how to say this." he heard her whisper moving closer to him. at this point she was sitting in his lap, with her legs sprawled around him.
"just tell me." he murmured running his hand through her hair and caressing her face. he watched as
enda closed her eyes and leaned into his touch. he wiped away the tear that escaped from her eye, "
en. what is it you're scaring me."
"i did something crazy." she confessed opening her eyes, "after we
oke up and all that drama happened between us and kelly, i just needed space. you have to understand dylan, i was just feeling so alone…more lonely then i have ever felt before and i didn't even think you and i were ever going to be an us again. before i knew it i was all alone and it was time to submit applications for college. donna told me that you and kelly were both going to be going to calu with her and steve next year and i knew i wouldn't be able to take another year of seeing you two together so… i decided to apply to schools back home in minnesota and….i got in. well i didn't just get in, but i really got in. they offered me a full ride dylan, and…and i've already sent them my acceptance. my flight is booked for the day after graduation…i'm leaving dylan. i'm going back to minnesota for college."
dylan's hand froze in her hair. he tried to keep his face neutral, but he could feel his face slowly slipping into a frown. his heart dropped to his stomach. of all the things he expected her to say, he did not expect this. he quickly pressed their bodies together in a hug. he tried desperately to blink away the rush of tears that flooded to his eyes.
he pulled back from the hug, forcing a smile onto his face, "i'm so happy for you."
"you are?" he heard her ask in a surprised voice. dylan looked into her eyes and realized she was fighting back her own tears.
"of course i am." he teased kissing her quickly, "i know how much school means to you. i've seen how hard you worked. a full scholarship is incredible
en. i could never hold you back from doing something you love just because i love you."
dylan was surprised when
enda leaned up and captured his lips again. he kissed her back with earnest trying to memorize the feeling of her lips on his. he wanted to laugh at the irony of it all. she was leaving. she was leaving him. he finally realized she was the one for him and it was too late. she pulled back and smiled at him, but it didn't reach her eyes.
"how am i supposed to leave now?" she wailed letting her tears fall, "how am i supposed to get on a plane and leave you now when its finally our time? i love you."
dylan was ripped from his dream when he saw the other members of his row starting to stand. it was time to get his diploma and graduate high school. dylan thought about his journey as he walked towards the end of the row. he remembered wanting to leave high school the minute he stepped through the doors, but now that it was all over, he wanted to go back and start all over.
he got up quickly and started shuffling towards the stage. out of the corner of his eye, he saw kelly sitting pretty in her chair. kelly. if he could go back and change the whole stupid love triangle of death he created, he would in a heartbeat.
it had taken dylan a long time to come to the realization that kelly was just a distraction. a part of him knew they got along so well because they were just like each other. no parents, no rules. she was someone who didn't care about college or worried about the pressures of the future, he loved her go with the flow attitude, but it was the exact opposite of what he needed.
dylan stood while he watched sarah mabthers accept her diploma from mrs. t. he took a deep
eath, he was next. dylan made his way up the stairs and waited. suddenly, he was overcome with nerves he ran his hands along the side of this gown trying to relieve the sudden moisture.
dylan heard his name and smiled softly, making his way across the stage. he reached out and shook mrs. teasley's hand.
"congratulations mr. mckay." she said while handing him his diploma, "and a job well done. i am so proud of all you have accomplished."
dylan accepted his diploma with a smile and quickly went to exit the stage. he glanced into the audience and stopped dead in his tracks. there, in the middle of the crowd, applauding wildly… was his mother.
of course she was wearing some ridiculous outfit, but she was there, cheering his name loudly above the rest of the cheers. he waved at her and he walked off the stage and back to his seat. he had no idea how iris knew about graduation, he didn't bother sending her the invitation, but he had a suspicious feeling the walsh's had something to do with it. regardless of what or who got her here, dylan was over joyed she finally showed up.
he half listened to the rest of the ceremony, only snapping back into attention as
enda and
andon made their way across the stage. sunddenly he was surrounded by a sea of flying caps and the rustling of robes of his classmates. it was over. high school was finished.
dylan watched the groups of students disburse to find their families. dylan eyed kelly em
acing a man he could only guess was her father. steve, his mother and her camera crew were nearby taking videos of steve and the rest of their friends. dylan ignored them and pushed his way through the crowds looking for his mother.
he saw her standing next to cindy near the side of the field, helping her stage a picture of the twins. dylan hung back and watched them for a moment. looking at
enda and
andon standing next to each other in their matching blue honors robes was a sight. for the first time, dylan could really see the twin resemblance.
he looked over at mr. walsh who was quickly wiping a tear from his eye.
dylan felt a twinge of sadness, wishing his father was still alive and at the ceremony. granted dylan barely knew the man, but dylan couldn't help but still want him around. his father wasn't perfect, but he was his father. d
"come over here dylan." he heard cindy call out, waving him over with her hand, "i want a picture of you and
enda. oh, and then i need a photo of you and iris and then one of me you and mr. walsh and then one of you and
andon. oh, there are so many picture combinations we have to get through. i just hope i have enough film."
